'Plein Air' Paradise

Do you have romantic ideas about what it would be like to execute a painting outside on location. At Lochmara Lodge on 29-30 September 2012 you are invited to devote two days to a hands-on masterclass for those interested in tips for painting outdoors. Using techniques passed down from American masters of the last generation, this will be a rare opportunity for those who want to paint better landscapes of all sorts in watercolour or oils.

Masterclass with painter Katharine T. Faison - 9:30am to 12:30pm

Katharine T Faison was taught 'Plein Air' techniques by the expert representational painters in New York where she grew up. She had the good fortune to have studied under artists such as world renowned watercolour painter and cartoonist David Levine, the then foremost portrait painter Arron Shikler, and award winning illustrator Daniel Schwartz were among those who shared their secrets when she was in a position to paint along side them over a thirty years time span. Her mentors believed that you could not get the same dimensional qualities working from a 2D photograph.

Becoming a full-time artist to her early twenties, Katharine travelled, painting in conditions from scorching desert to windy boat top. In a workshop delivered at Lochmara Lodge on 25 September, she will share her experience about preparing and the logistics of executing painting outdoors, as well her methods of creating the illusion for the third dimension within the confines for this 2D media.

Come to Lochmara Lodge Saturday and Sunday 29 - 30 September, 2012 - Call or text international mobile number (0064 21) 370096 or email enquiries@lochmaralodge.co.nz  to book the course, and arrange transport/accommodation as desired.
